HyFleet Fuel-Cell Project

The companies Freudenberg, ZF Friedrichshafen, Flixbus and Atmosfair are participating in the “HyFleet” project of the German Federal Ministry of Transport. The goal is to optimize the use of fuel cell technology for coaches and other heavy utility vehicles and make them suitable for series production.

ZF contributes its many years of expertise in the field of purely electrically powered commercial vehicles, including power electronics and control software. The joint project is led by Freudenberg Fuel Cell e-Power Systems GmbH.

The CEO of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (parent company of Freudenberg Fuel Cell) Claus Möhlenkampf explains: “Freudenberg will bring its decades of fuel cell expertise at component and system level to the project”

Wilhelm Rehm, ZF Commercial Vehicle Board Member, adds: “ZF’s broad technology portfolio and knowledge of electrified drivetrains and the associated systems are already making it easier for vehicle manufacturers to get started with e-mobility. In the future, fuel cells will play an important role in e-mobility for heavy utility vehicles due to their range and fast refueling times. We have always operated electrification in a technology-neutral manner – the fuel cell has also played an important role as a drive solution for us right from the start. “

The project will run for 3 years.
